This is the second year I have rented from University Highlands, and I have been very happy here. I live in a four bedroom apartment on the third floor, and when I moved in I did not know my roommates, but because the office tries to match people due to interests, I ended up with great roommates. Maintenance is pretty good, they usually fix things within 1 or 2 days of calling the office. Rent is due at the beginning of the month, and at move in. This is outlined in the lease information. , It comes fully furnished, with cable, and with ethernet. There is a computer lab, game room, workout room, pool/hottub. They will not allow you to have things on the balconies aside from chairs, and the occasional plant. This is also outlined in the lease agreement. They also will not allow more than 12 people in a unit without prior consent. The rules for the visitor parking lot are sort of annoying, but understandable. Also, if you live near the main entrance in the 1100, 100, 900, 800, 700 builings, there is NOT much parking. At least not enough for everyone who lives in the buildings. These building are also kind of far from the visitors lot. So if you're looking at moving in here, try to get into the 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, or 600 buildings because of the parking. They keep the parking lots fairly well maintained during the winter. They are far better at this than almost any other apartments in Boone. Trust me on this one. I have been stuck at my friends' apartments on several occasions due to how poorly their leasing company took care of their lots (i.e. Winkler). Highlands is a very clean and safe place to live. If you are a big partier, than you might want to reconsider, because they do not tolerate crazy parties. Also, the appalcart runs frequently to the stop on site. You will need to be out there about 35 minutes before your class starts to make it to campus on time. This is so helpful, especially in the winter when you may not want to drive. I'm very thankful to have been able to live here. It has been most enjoyable. This is the second year I have rented from University Highlands, and I have been very happy here. They make so much money off of us at this apartment building and treat us like crap. Ron whoever is a tyrant. He changes rules just because he can. They regulate everything you do, even though you pay him your first born child. My boyfriend has been coming over a lot this summer. I didn't really let people visit a lot during the school year just because visitor parking is so terrible. The lot only has about 50 spaces for the thousands of college students that live here and its always full when school is in session. Now that its summer, there are only about 5 cars in the lot so we didn't think it would be a big deal. My boyfriend first got a warning saying he can only park his car in visitor 1 night in a row. He forgot once and stayed 2 nights and they towed him. Then, after he started coming over every other night, he got another warning saying he can only stay one night during sunday through thursday. This happened within one months time. Its the visitor lot for a reason. Dont tell me when I can have my friends over when I pay YOU! Also, I could never park near my actual apartment even though I have a parking pass. The security guards think they are the —- and will tow anyone at anytime. I did like the individual leases, but its way overpriced considering that they make 530 per person for a 2 bedroom apartment. Nothing in Boone should be that expensive. They also changed the rules from last year that no one could own candles in the apartments. That is absolutely idiotic! I have decorative candles that have never been lit! I had to take a ton of decorations down and my apartment looked bare. I had already signed my lease and then they made that rule. That can't be legal. Also, the pool is never open, and when it actually is they close it at 9pm. You will get the cops called on you if you go anywhere near it, instead of a friendly reminder to leave! They come out on the sundeck during they day and call you out of the poll for ID and to make sure you don't have too many guests. They are good about leaving notices or calling when they will be entering apartments, but when they do come they snoop and are rude. I got a notice saying they would be coming sometime that week. They came in the early morning when I was asleep and barged in my room. Thank god I was appropriately clothed for the 3 random men in my apartment. They shouldn't have come in my room at all, but their excuse was that they were tightening the door handle. This was not mentioned in my notice. There are also rules that nothing can be left on the porch except appropriate furniture. My friend had an older camping chair and got a fine because it was torn. He also got a fine for an ashtray, and after it was removed got another fine for cigarette butts laying around. What do they want him to do, eat the cig when hes done?! They dont handle snow well either. I had a 2 story pile of snow sitting in front of my porch for 3 months. When they plowed, they just pushed the snow on top of the cars so no one could get out. If you called, they told you that you could use a shovel they had in the office. The overall apartment is ok, but dealing with management, parking, and stupid rules is enough to run anyone away. The annoying thing is that with the lack of decent apartments in Boone, the management knows all of their apartments will always be filled and that they can get away with anything so none of this will ever change.
