What your bedroom paint colors have to do with sleep qualityIt might not be your upcoming work review or the fight that you had with your best friend that’s keeping you awake at night—it could be your bedroom paint colors. So what’s the “magic” color when it comes to bedroom hues? Believe it or not, people whose rooms are painted blue tend to sleep longer than those who get their shuteye in rooms with different colors. The reason has a whole lot to do with your eyes. Specialized receptors in the retina of your eyes—called ganglion cells—are most sensitive to blue. The ganglion cells are responsible for relaying information to the part of your brain that controls your body’s 24-hour rhythm, which, in turn, affects everything from performance to how you feel physically during the day. The color blue is associated with feelings of calm which, when picked up by your ganglion cells and relayed to your brain, helps reduce blood pressure and heart rate, all of which help you receive a solid night’s sleep. If the color blue isn’t your style, at least try to keep your bedroom wall color in the realm of relaxing shades, like grays, silvers, and neutrals, since these cool colors have also been known to help lower blood pressure and heart rate. Warm colors, like pale yellow, may also work, since they can help create an inviting, cozy feel.Keep in mind, however, that simply painting your walls blue won’t be the only thing that helps you sleep well at night. Following a sleep schedule and obeying proper sleep hygiene rules are both essential to a good night’s sleep, as well.

Today's master bedroom suites are typically larger than the other bedrooms in your home, so you have many options, and you can combine and layer colors to create a unique look. If your master bedroom includes a bathroom and a dressing or sitting area, plan your colors for all of those spaces as a whole. That doesn't mean the paint colors in your bedroom and bathroom need to match, but they should complement one another. Picking up accent colors in one room and incorporating those colors into the other will create a unified look that will turn your bedroom into the comforting personal retreat you desire.

Many variables contribute to our quality of sleep, like stress-levels and whether or not we exercise. A less obvious factor is what bedroom colors we choose to design or paint with. When selecting paint colors for bedrooms, the first thing to consider is temperature. While warm colors advance toward the eye and appear more active, creating a stimulating effect, cool colors -- the hues from blue green through blue violet, most grays included -- tend to recede, producing a more calming and relaxing effect. That said, there's a lot of variation on the cool color spectrum; a bright green and a pale blue can create spaces with drastically different vibes. If cool colors aren't your cup of tea, warm hues that are light and subtle, such as soft yellows or pinks, can also feel soothing. We turned to a few of our favorite interior designers to hear how they go about selecting paint colors for bedrooms. Read on to get inspired and shop a few chic paint choices.

While we usually talk about the best feng shui bedroom colors as creating calm and harmonious feng shui energy in the bedroom,  are you ready to accept that this bedroom, too, has excellent feng shui? Full of wood and fire feng shui element colors, this bedroom has excellent energy - crisp, fresh, vibrant, happy. Especially good feng shui decor for a person with the fire birth element energy.

Lawlor Architects For a relaxing atmosphere in your bedroom, look to cooler hues — shades of gray, blue, green and purple — to lend a hand. These colors have been shown to reduce stress and anxiety. They can also make a space seem more expansive, so they’re a great choice if your bedroom is on the small side.1. Dark gray-blue. Of course, soothing needn’t equal boring. One of my favorite colors for bedroom walls is a dark gray-blue. It’s dramatic but still retains a calm, cool and collected vibe. If you have concerns about introducing such a deep color to your room, think about how you can break it up with a large piece of artwork or decorative headboard.

Also notice the abundance of white color (metal feng shui element) in this bedroom. Without the freshness and clarity of the metal element, this bedroom could easily feel overwhelming.Anything we would add to this bedroom to improve its feng shui? Honestly, it feels perfect and unique, and probably most nourishing for the person who created it (a good headboard, though, can always make the energy in the bedroom stronger).
